Here is a bold one: The combatants within the Super Bowl will be the New England Patriots and the Dallas Cowboys, and the Patriots will win.
Why? The Patriots is going to be there because they are probably the most prepared in a season where most teams will require an additional two or three games to catch up. Also, using the loss to the New York Jets hanging them over from last year's playoffs, they'll be anxious for payback.
2012 Super Bowl Picks
And speaking of the Jets, the Patriots will beat them within the AFC Conference Championship game. This is the way life works. Win a big game unexpectedly twelve months - lose an identical game the following year.
And who will the Cowboys beat within the NFC Conference Championship game? The underdog of underdogs - the Detroit Lions. Yes, I am predicting the Lions will catch a few breaks and win several games.
It would be no fun to pick a rematch from the Pittsburgh Steelers and also the Packers, although entering the growing season, both of them seem like they might repeat.
Divisional winners in the AFC will be Tom Brady and the Gambling within the East, with Mark Sanchez and also the Jets being a wild card team from the division. The Cleveland Browns, underneath the leadership of Colt McCoy, will win the brutal AFC Central division. Of course, Payton Manning and also the Gambling will win the South, and perhaps surprisingly, the Kansas City Chiefs will win the AFC West. Who will the 2nd wild card team be? The Baltimore Ravens, obviously.
2012 Super Bowl Odds
Divisional winners within the NFC East will be the resurgent Cowboys, with Tony Romo back again. The Packers will win the Central, but the Lions will get in through the wild card. Sam Bradford will lead the St. Louis Rams to some West Division title, and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers will fill up the South. The 2nd wild card team would be the boring old New York Giants.
NFL picks
The Cowboys is going to be undervalued this year simply because they were overvalued this past year. Super Bowl winners in the previous year are always overvalued, much like the losers. The usual understanding on up and coming supports teams such as the Jets, but CW usually is a huge miss. This leaves people like Tom Brady and Peyton Manning to guide steady but very slow charges through the season and the playoffs.
Trends result in upsets, and I usually try to follow these trends. The Browns might have been 12-4 last year, even though they have new coaches, a brand new offense along with a new defense, it appears pretty clear the new regime is serious about winning sooner then later, because the Steelers and also the Ravens are due for a fall, picking the Browns isn't a stretch.
Finally, the Detroit Lions need to bring it all together. The talent is young. It's there. Why not this season instead of next?
So that's it for this year's predictions. Let's talk next February and we'll see if I'm able to do it 2 yrs in a row. (More)
